미국의 서부 1/3을
차지하는 Rocky산맥의 서쪽은 높은 산으로 덮여있어 경치좋은 명승지는 거이 모두가 이곳에 몰려있고, 동부 2/3는 모두가 산이 없는
평지라서 농사짓기에는 좋지만 관광할 곳은 나이아가라 폭포등 몇개뿐입니다. 그러다 보니 미국에서 자동차여행을 하는곳은 대부분이
서부지역이고, 동부에는 별로 갈곳이 없읍니다. 이래서 우리의 여행은 크게 두가지로 나누어집니다. 하나는 이 거대한 북미대륙을 횡단하여
동부 끝의 대서양까지 돌아오는 대륙횡단여행이고, 대른 하나는 Rocky산맥의 서쪽에서 주로 한국에서 오는 방문객들(친척/친구)에게 미국
구경을 시켜주기위한 비교적 단기간의 관광여행입니다.
The west of
Rocky Mountains of U.S.A. occupies 1/3 of U.S.A. with a lot of high
mountains with beautiful sceneries for nice sightseeing driving while east
2/3 of U.S.A. has just a flat land very useful for farming but not such a
good place to drive around except only a few place like a Niagara Falls.
Therefore, most people drive around the west looking for well known famous
sightseeing places in the west of Rocky Mountains. Our trip records here are
split to 2 parts - Transcontinental Trips to east coast such as New York and
the other part is sightseeing trips usually with guests from Korea in the
west of Rocky Mountains to show beautiful America to them in a few days
mostly or 1-2 weeks some times.
북미대륙은 워낙 커서,
이것을 한바퀴 돌으려면 짧아도 두주일 이상, 보통은 한달이상이 걸립니다. 우리가 사는 San Jose에서 동부 끝의 New York까지
갈려면 밤낮을 쉬지 않고 달려야 3일이면 가고, 서울에서 Singapore까지 가는 거리와 비슷합니다. 그러다보니 이런 대륙횡단여행은
우리 내외 둘이서만 하게 되고, 손님들이 함께 가는일은 없었읍니다. 우리는 지금까지 9회를 다녀왔는데, 아홉번을 왕복하는것이니까,
실제로는 18번의 횡단이고, 그 총거리는 지구를 세바퀴 돈 거리와 비슷합니다. 아마 평생에 이만큼 달려본 사람은 없지 않을런지? 많은
사람들이 기네스 북 깜이라고 말들 합니다.
Since the
North American Continent is huge, it takes minimum 2 weeks, but 1 month most
cases. If we drive from San Jose where we live to New York city, it will
take 3 days only if continuously drive day and night without any rest. It is
equivalent to drive Seoul to Singapore. We, only Jane and I, drove these
transcontinental trips without any visitors always. We made 9 trips in our
lives, which means we crossed this huge continent 18 times, which is
equivalent distance as we drive around the earth 3 times. I wonder how many
people could make this kind of driving. Many say it has to be recorded in
Guinness book.
이에 비하여, Grand
Canyon, Yellowstone Park, Yosemite National Park등의 유명한 관광지는 거이 모두가 Rocky산맥
서부에 있어, 한국에서 오는 손님들을 모시고 수없이 돌아다녔는데, Yosemite National Park는 당일치기를 할수있는
곳이면서, 미국에서 워낙 유명한 국립공원이라, 적어도 30회 이상 다녀왔읍니다. 그외에 Lake Tahoe, Las Vegas등 수 많은
관광지가 가까이에 있어, 주로 수일간, 길어서 1주일 정도의 일정으로 다녀왔읍니다.
As most of
beautiful national parks for sightseeing, such as Grand Canyon, Yellowstone
Park and Yosemite National Park, are in the west of Rocky Mountains and we
made so many travels to those places with visitors from Korea. As you can go
and return home within a day, I think I visited Yosemite National Park more
than 30 times. There are beautiful places such as Lake Tahoe and Las Vegas
not too far, we made travels of a few days mostly but even a week long
trips.
