Jane at a first class seat of Shinkansen train, Bullet Train, from Tokyo for Kyoto. It runs at about 250Km/hour (about 160 miles/hour) speed and takes just about two and an half hours between Tokyo and Osaka (about 550 Km or 350 miles), faster and a lot more comfortable (but not cheaper) than airplane considering time to/from airports and waiting time at airport.  The fastest train stops only Nagoya and Kyoto on the way.
